20 Japanese Dishes – Drama Translation Edition:

1. Oyakodon = Parent-and-Child Bowl

Chicken + egg on rice. The whole family, reunited in a bowl.

2. Tanuki Udon = Raccoon Dog Noodles

Zero raccoon. Just tempura crumbs. False advertising at its finest.

3. Kitsune Udon = Fox Noodles

Fried tofu. Foxes supposedly love it. No foxes were harmed in the making.

4. Bakudan Onigiri = Bomb Rice Ball

The size of your fist. Explodes in calories. Carb-based warfare.

5. Niku ga Naku Hodo = Until There Is No More Meat

A 100% vegetable dish. The name is a direct threat.

6. Hiyashi Chuka = Refreshed Chinese

Cold summer noodles. The Chinese person took a shower, apparently.

7. Oyaji Gyoza = Old Man's Dumplings

Made by an old man. Total transparency. Respect the honesty.

8. Mizu Yokan = Trembling Red Bean Bar

A gelatinous dessert that moves on its own. Jiggly and slightly unsettling.

9. Buta no Shougayaki = Ginger-Grilled Pork

Sounds like a spell from an RPG. You chant it and dinner appears.

10. Gomoku Soba = Five-Item Soba

5 things mixed together. Peak "clean out the fridge" cuisine.

11. Yamaimo = Mountain Yam

Slippery. Edible slime texture. Your throat will be confused.

12. Neta ga Aru Sushi = Sushi "I've Got Stuff On It"

The chef ran out of inspiration. Zero effort naming. Maximum honesty.

13. Tori no Tebasaki = Chicken Hand Wings

Yes, they're just chicken wings. But now with 100% more identity crisis.

14. Kaki no Dotenabe = Crumbling Oyster Hot Pot

Everything collapses into the broth. Controlled chaos in a clay pot.

15. Shiokara = Salted and Fermented

Stinky squid guts. A dare disguised as a dish. You will be tested.

16. Namako = Sea Cucumber

Looks like nothing, feels like a rubber band. The ocean's practical joke.

17. Shirako = White Children

Fish sperm sacs. Creepy name, creamy taste. Cannot unlearn the translation.

18. Fugu no Hirezake = Pufferfish Fin Alcohol

Only drinkable if the chef didn't mess up. A hot sake with a side of potential death.

19. Natto = Sticky Beans

Stretches like chewing gum. Smells like gym socks. Divides nations.

20. Umi no Mori = Forest of the Sea

Seaweed. Incredibly poetic for something that's just... seaweed.
